Kanga QRSS Mite : Beacon Transmitter
The Kanga QRSS Mite is a low cost, compact standalone single band beacon transmitter. No computer needed so can be popped in a shed, holiday home, caravan etc Time sync is done by one pushbutton on the front to set the very accurate RTC internal to the KQM . Transmissions are made every 10 minutes (or user selectable time intervals). Time keeping is kept during power cycles by a small on-board 3v button cell. We are using a special version of the si5351 module in this kit with a exceptional high stability (0.5ppm) TXCO for great performance. (Unique to Kanga)
Designed for low power operation giving out 200mW of RF which is a ideal figure for this low power beaconing mode. 3 versions Low Band 60m and 40m, Mid Band 30m and 20m, and High bands 15m, 12m or 10m
Users need to first configure their Callsign via a terminal emulator plugged (windows or mac will do this) into the USB port on the rear of the unit. The KQM runs from just 5v and a simple phone PSU or the like will support this. Standby mode current is around 50mA and transmit is less than 150mA.
Comes with a FREE BONUS kit (QRPp Power Checker) that allow you to measure the RF output power
Please Note!
This is NOT suitable for a first time project, with the more complicated setup and care needed for the build it could be one of the more challenging projects for inexperienced builders and for those not familiar with WSPR
Please read the build and setup instructions before purchase. if unsure about which band i would suggest the Low or Mid Band version as that will get you seen the most.

IMPORTANT .In order to setup the Kanga QRSS Mite (KQM) you will need to connect it to a computer once to enter your own information (Callsign). A simple terminal emulator is all that's needed and we have links for a great Free one below (or you can use any other you wish). you MAY need a USB driver (CH340) for the computer to see the Com port on the KQM so we have a download for that below too!
The KQM is designed to run from a USB 5v supply or the low cost USB power blocks that are normally used to charge phones etc. the average current consumption of this works out to 70mA over the typical 10min cycle so a 1000mA battery pack will run the KQM for over 12 hrs on one charge, This is simple beacon transmitter and gets you up and running for a very low price and doesn't tie up a computer and your base station radio costing over >£1000 just to send out a low power QRSS beacon on a couple of bands. Its is advisable to read the full instructions BEFORE you purchase the kit.
